How to use the Matchup Tool

The Matchup Tool is two things at once: a matchup analyzer that tracks how your week is actually going, and a matchup planner that projects what’s left and lets you test moves before you make them.

Analyzer

Games already played use real box scores (once each game is final). Your totals and category results update on their own every few minutes.

Planner

Games still to come use EFB’s projections. Add a free agent, sit someone, or skip a game and see right away how the week’s results change.

Important Note
The tool doesn’t read your league’s matchup directly. It counts stats for whoever is on each roster in the Matchup Tool, and every game you leave selected. The best way to use the tool is to build your matchup on Monday (or before the week starts), then keep it up to date as the week goes along by adding players, removing players, and deselecting any games that will not factor into the matchup. Building it fresh halfway through the week is fine, but you will have to manually adjust the earlier days of the week, as the tool will pull in the rosters from the day you pulled the teams in.

Setting Up Your Week

  1. Load your league (once)

Your league comes from the League Settings page (the Manage Leagues button). Add it there once with its scoring settings and it will be available in every EFB tool. In the Matchup Tool, select the league in the League dropdown menu at the top of the page.

Before building a new matchup, hit Refresh on the League Settings page to ensure the rosters are current.

  2. Set the week’s dates

In Choose Matchup, set Start Date to the first day of your matchup (usually Monday). The End Date fills in as that Sunday. It can be adjusted for any period. So if you only wish to see the final three days of the matchup, you can adjust the tool to only show those days. Multi-week matchups, like the double-week around the All-Star break, are also supported.

  3. Pick the two teams and build it

Choose Team 1 (you) and Team 2 (your opponent) and then click Build Matchup. Every player’s games for the week will show up, and the tool pulls in the injury report. Players listed as Out on the injury report will automatically have their games deselected.

  4. Save it

Type a name in Save Current As (e.g. “Week 3 vs Team James”) and hit Save As New. From then on, every change you make saves itself, and it follows you to your other devices when you’re logged in.

Adjusting the Matchup During the Week

  1. When you pick up a player

Add the player using the search bar in the Add Players Manually section. To add a player to Team 1, start typing the player’s name, and then select the player. The added player’s games will be deselected when they enter the tool, so any games that are played during the week before that player is added do not count toward your matchup totals. You will need to manually select each upcoming game you plan to get from the player.

  2. When you drop a player

Don’t delete dropped players unless they will not play any games during the matchup. Leave the player on the roster and deselect his remaining games. That keeps the stats the player already gave you during the week.

  3. When your opponent makes a move

Add the player to your opponent’s team using the search bar in the Add Players Manually section and deselect or select games as required.

  4. Lineup changes and injuries

Deselect games for any player you can’t start. You can also deselect games for players you think are going to sit later in the week but who have not been ruled out for future games just yet.

Questions

Why doesn’t a game that’s in progress show up yet?

The tool only counts games once they’re final, so your totals don’t jump around mid-game. Until then that player keeps his projection for the day.

Can I use it for next week before it starts?

Yes – set next week’s dates, build it, and everything is projected. It’s a good way to see which teams have the friendlier schedule before you make moves.

Does my matchup save on its own?

Once you’ve used Save As New, every change saves into that matchup automatically. Before that, your current matchup is still kept in this browser so you won’t lose it by closing the page.
