Auction League Sleepers and Busts Tool

This new tool will make it easy for you to identify players who are overvalued and undervalued on Yahoo and ESPN. The tool compares each player’s dollar value, calculated from their Elite Fantasy Basketball projected numbers, to the prices used by Yahoo and ESPN in their draft rooms to rank players. You can also adjust the tool for your chosen punting build. To do that, simply deselect any category you do not plan on competing in, and the tool will recalculate the EFB projected price using only the categories you have selected. By doing so, you’ll be able to gain a better understanding not only of which players have the potential to be major steals in your build of choice, but also how much you can bid on those players before they become poor value. As you can see from the tool, in nine-category leagues, you can pay about $10 more for Evan Mobley in punt FT% than you can in neutral builds before his price starts to exceed his projected value in that build. You’ll also be able to see that you would need to get at least a $15 discount on Mobley before he becomes a reasonable pick in punt FG%.

Unlike in prior years, when I would update the Auction League Sleeper and Busts Lists twice during preseason, this tool will be getting a refresh fairly consistently. Updating the Excel document in prior years was very time-consuming. With this tool being tied to all the other tools that will be getting constant updates, the process is significantly more efficient now. Anytime there is a major projections update or a major change in the Yahoo or ESPN prices, I will update the tool.

We will likely get a major Yahoo projections update soon. Their current prices are bizarre. ESPN’s are as well, but that is to be expected. Yahoo’s current prices do not account for the massive gap in value between the truly elite options and the other first-round picks. The top-tier players are underprices and their mid-tier first-round players are badly overpriced. Their current prices suggest that the gap between a player like Nikola Jokic and Cade Cunningham is minor because they will go within a handful of picks of each other in snake drafts. ESPN has most of the early-round players badly overprice. The difference between the truly elite players and the rest of the early-round players is also much smaller than it should be in their draft rooms. It’s impossible to know when ESPN will update their rankings and prices again. There have been years when they haven’t touched their rankings until very late in draft season.
