22/23 Punt Points Guides
The Punt Points Strategy
If you are the type that likes to swing for the fences, then this is the punting strategy for you. Punt assists, punt FG%, and friends are all great strategies that can lead to a team that dominates your league, but none of those builds have the upside that punt points has. It’s not the easiest strategy to pull off, in fact, it can be straight-up difficult to execute properly, but it is the punting strategy with the highest ceiling. What gives the punt points build its incredibly high ceiling is its ability to shake up the rankings in a way that no other build can. When you ignore points, some All-Stars become forgettable assets and some role players suddenly become early-round players. If you take a look at last year’s nine-category punt points rankings, you’ll find Lonzo Ball inside of the top 15 and Ja Morant outside of the top 90 behind fantasy juggernauts Josh Hart and Dorian Finney-Smith. Two years ago, Nerlens Noel and his 5.1 PPG finished inside of the top 25 in this setup. None of those rankings are a fluke. That’s just what happens when points don’t count. Because of how much the rankings swing when points are ignored, it will be very possible to finish your draft with a handful of top-35 punt points options on your team and not a single player projected to finish outside of the top 100 in your build. That’s not something that can be achieved in any other build. Punting points also makes it easier to play the wire. Not having to worry about points greatly increases the pool of useful players and also ensures that there will be top-100 options on the wire at all times. To other builds, Onyeka Okongwu and Bruce Brown were just one or two game streams. In punt points, they were both top-100 players. The strategy’s ability to take a large chunk out of the value of early-round players adds to its appeal. Punting assists comes with a similar advantage, but the advantage is not as large as it is here. When points don’t matter, top-end assets like Morant and Luka Doncic are a lot less scary to go up against. When you punt points, you will be turning some of your opponents’ top options into mid-round players.
