2026 Rookie Class Analysis and Dynasty Tiers

Below is a pick-by-pick breakdown of this year’s outstanding rookie class. The 2026 draft class includes a handful of superstar-level prospects and is full of players drafted after pick four who look like they will have fantasy-friendly games. This is the best draft class in years, not only from a talent standpoint, but from a fantasy standpoint. I have also included a list of rookies who should be drafted in re-draft leagues, rookies worth monitoring, and dynasty tiers for this year’s first-round picks.

1) AJ Dybantsa (BYU/Wizards) – Dybantsa is a superstar-level prospect on the court. In points leagues, his upside is also sky-high. In category leagues, his long-term outlook is not quite as promising. He still has early-round upside in that format, but it will be more difficult for the Wizard to crack the top 20. Dybantsa is going to immediately be a strong source of popcorn numbers, which is why his game is an excellent fit for points leagues. At BYU, he averaged a ridiculous 25.5 PPG on 51.0 FG%, 6.8 RPG, and 3.7 APG in 34.8 MPG. His contributions on the defensive end were much less impressive. He managed just 1.1 SPG and 0.3 BPG, which are very poor numbers for a player with Dybantsa’s physical gifts. The forward has looked better on that end in preseason. However, given that college defensive numbers are usually a good predictor of NBA-level defensive numbers, it’s more likely that Dybantsa ends up as a mediocre contributor in the two defensive categories. His three-ball (1.3 3PG on 33.1 3P%) and free throw shooting (77.4 FT% on 8.5 FTA) also need some work, but those two areas are less of a concern. It is rare for a high-level wing prospect to struggle to develop a reliable jumper. The holes in Dybantsa’s line make him a worse pick than Cameron Boozer in category league rookie drafts. However, he is fine to take at two. In points leagues, he has a stronger argument for the top spot, but Boozer is the safer option. In both settings, the first-overall pick is just a flier in re-draft leagues. For Dybantsa to be more than a back-end option as a rookie, he will need at least one of Trae Young and Anthony Davis to miss significant time.
