23/24 Feb. 6th Box Score Analysis (7 Games)

Amen Thompson (Pick Up): With VanVleet out until the break, Amen is a 12-team add. However, he’s not for every team. There are going to be some very useful things in his line for the next few games and some very damaging things which makes him more of a matchup-based add than a blanket must-add. As the Rockets starting point guard, he could give us about eight boards and six dimes per night. He should also be in the 1.5 SPG range assuming he sees 30+ MPG. The rest of his line will be less exciting. He’s not going to score a ton, the efficiency probably won’t be pretty, and the turnovers will be ugly. His FG% (48.6 FG%) and turnovers (2.7 TOP36) have been decent up to this point, but that is because he hasn’t been in a featured role this year. As the head of the snake in the Rockets’ offense, expect some shaky numbers in both areas. Amen will also be a tricky add for teams needing to win FT%. He’s a poor free throw shooter (66.7 FT%) who gets to the line a fair amount (4.4 FTA36). In points leagues, where the efficiency issues don’t matter as much, Amen is a must-add. He could be a mid-round player in that setting.
