On a per-game basis, this is a perfect pairing. Giannis-led teams go into the second in an average-or-worse spot in threes, assists, and steals. Adding Fred to a Giannis-led squad brings the team back to average in threes and puts it in an above-average position in assists and steals. The main risk here is Fred’s durability. The Raptors didn’t add any notable pieces to their backcourt this summer which means that last year’s dangerously-high MPG will likely be returning. If you do draft VanVleet in two, make sure that your next few picks are fairly safe. You’ll also want to keep an eye on your FG% if you go with the point guard in the second. Any punt FT% team with championship aspirations will need to win FG% consistently and VanVleet will make that a little tricky. If you start Giannis/VanVleet/PG/PG to pick up the points, assists, and steals that you need, you’ll go in the fifth in a below-average position in the category. That’s not a major issue in punt FT%, but one that will have to be monitored.
